Mr.
Pinto operates a health insurance consulting agency and
is both a licensed Certified Insurance Consultant and a
licensed Insurance Producer in the State of
Connecticut. He has given numerous seminars on health
insurance program design and implementation strategies
to individuals, small business owners and even other
insurance agents for over 10 years. During that
time, he was the Public Sector Account Executive at
United Healthcare in CT primarily responsible for the
under 3,000 employee market; was tasked with overseeing
the MEHIP program; assisted with the HealthRe (CT)
program; and the launching of the ACT-CT program. Mr. Pinto
has published a paperback book on health insurance,
titled: The Health Insurance Handbook: Understanding
& Shopping for Health Insurance; as well as two
E-Book versions of the book; an Individual Guide and a
Small Business Guide. A planned 2nd Edition with
Health Care Reform as a New Chapter is planned for the
1st Quarter of 2012. Currently, he is writing a
series of articles on the Health Insurance Exchange's
being created under health care reform, and being
published in the
SBHCT
newsletters.
Mr. Pinto was born and raised in Waterbury, CT; and is a 1st generation American citizen of immigrant parents from Portugal. He has also lived in the Capitol District of New York (primarily in Troy, NY) for nine years and spent a summer internship in Cincinnati, OH. At this time, he is a long-time resident, almost seven years, of downtown Waterbury, CT; residing in a converted commercial space in the nationally historical Cass Gilbert designed Lincoln House.
Mr. Pinto graduated from Holy Cross High School (1987) in Waterbury, CT and continued on to earn both a Masters of Business Administration with a concentration in Entrepreneurship (1999) and a Bachelor of Science Degree in Chemical Engineering (1998) from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute in Troy, NY.
Prior to attending Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, he
also earned a Associate in Science Degree in Mechanical
Engineering Technology from Waterbury State Technical
College (1990), now merged into Naugatuck Valley Community
College.
Mr. Pinto also served in the United States Army National Guard and
United States Army Reserve for a total of twelve years, as both an Enlisted person and a Commissioned Officer (Commissioned in May 1998) in both the states of CT (1987-1995) and NY (1996-2001) and received an Honorable Discharge in January 2001.
During this time of service, he was awarded two Army
Achievement Medals; one in 1989 when named Soldier of
the Year for Company B 1-102d Infantry in Waterbury, CT;
and one in 1998 for service as the Battalion S-2 Officer
during the 42nd Infantry Division Warfighter Exercise as
part of the 642d Military Intelligence Battalion.
Mr. Pinto is very active in many business groups and volunteers a significant amount of time to charitable organizations and community service groups.
He was selected by New Haven Business Times magazine to their
13th Annual “Forty under 40” in 2006; a list of up and coming young professionals in the Greater New Haven Region that serve their communities. Mr. Pinto also has broader business experience having been a partner in several start-up businesses, including an Internet Service Provider;
and a Shared Office Suite and Hosted Phone Service
Business.
